L-R: Istifanus Daniel Bargo, Special Assistant, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, Office of The Deputy Governor, Kaduna State; Sharon Demige Istifanus, Labour Governor, Kaduna State & Engr. Gazalli M. Tukur.
Engr. Gazalli who is presently the National President, FGCKOSA, an Electrical Engineer and also Managing Consultant, Gams & Abell Nig. Ltd, spoke to some journalists after the Federal Government College Kaduna Old Students’ Association Congress meeting which was held on Saturday 4th November, 2017 at the school’s premises in Malali, Kaduna. He told the journalists that Sharon Demige Istifanus, the Labour Room Governor representing the entire indigenes of Kaduna state at the on-going National reality TV show called ‘The Labour Room’, is a product of Federal Government College, Malali-Kaduna, having only passed out from the school in 2016.
“Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, it is my singular pleasure and honour as an Old student of this prestigious school, to inform you that the young lady representing the whole of Kaduna state in the on-going reality TV show, The Labour Room, is a product of the same school I was privilege to attend and graduate from 37 years ago. I and the entire Old students of Federal Government College Kaduna are therefore truly proud of her.”
The National President categorically told the journalists that Federal Government Colleges which were established in almost all the states in the federation decades ago, were founded not only the need to promote Education, but also on the need to foster unity in diversity among students and to a large extent, future leaders which explains the school’s motto: PRO UNITATE!
Engr. Gazalli said that from the first set of graduates in 1977 till date, the school had trained and produced students from all over the country, cut across different religions, ethnicity and even nationality, a factor that has made even the Old Student Association a strong and formidable body. He added that, part of the discussions held at the congress meeting was to among others, appoint members of Board of Trustees for the association, set up an Electoral Committee and also finalise plans for the Founders’ Day event coming up in January 2018.
According to Engr. Gazalli, “I was first contacted by one of our old students, Mr. Istifanus Daniel Bargo, who I am also happy to tell you, is presently the Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor of Kaduna state. He asked me if I am aware of an on-going Reality TV show called The Labour Room and I said No. Istifanus went on to give me a brief background about the show and then I was shocked and happy when he said that the young lady representing the whole of Kaduna state on the reality TV show was our old student. I tell you, since then, we the old students from the Class of ’77 to the Class of 2017 have been following the show and giving all the support Sharon needs especially during the last Discharge exercise where her group, ‘House of Palms’, was up for eviction. We were able to reach out to our Old students all over the country and abroad to gather votes for her alongside her other supporters ”
He added that, “Having met her weeks before the show commenced, I was impressed by her confidence, despite her young age bearing in mind she is only 19 and will be competing with people twice her age. But one critical point I want you all to take into cognisance is the fact that Sharon is a product of an institution which was borne out of the need to promote Unity in Diversity and as such, it is no coincidence that she has emerged as the candidate representing Kaduna state which is why I and the entire Old Students are confident that she will emerge as the winner of the reality TV show”
The Labour Room Reality TV show which is being organised by Nigeria Rebirth Foundation, has as its Patron, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, wife of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria; Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife as the Royal Father; Alh. Ibrahim Commassie (Former IG of Police), Chairman, Governing Council and Mr. Isaac Balami as National Coordinator. The show which has 37 youths (males, females, Christians, muslims, from the ages of 18-45), christened as “Labour Room Governors” and selected from the 37 states of the federation including FCT-Abuja, are being housed in an undisclosed mansion in Abuja over a period of 60-Days. During this period, they are to analyse and x-ray the myriad of issues bedevilling the Nigerian state and also articulate workable, sustainable, solution-driven recommendations for reforms. The last 4 finalists stand to win N200 million, part of which will be used to establish a local seed content company that will employ not less than 1,000 youths.
In his final words to the journalists, the FGCKOSA National President stated that, “This is a laudable program and we sincerely pray for our old student Sharon, to come out successful, enjoy good health and equally gain an experience that will have a significant impact on our society at large.”
