Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital High Court, has sentenced former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, to fourteen years in prison for criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of funds.
Dariye was charged for allegedly diverting one point one Billion Naira while in office between nineteen ninety nine and two thousand and seven.
Justice Banjoko, in a six-and-a-half-hour judgment convicted the ex-governor on 15 out the 23 count charge of criminal breach of trust against punishable under the Penal Code
Eight of the twenty three charges were thrown out for lack of sufficient evidence.
The former governor was found guilty of diverting eighty million naira belonging to the state to the Peoples Democratic Party, and another One hundred million Naira to a private company.
Today’s sentence is coming few weeks after former governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame, was jailed fourteen years for fraud by the same Judge.
