Kaduna State Government led by Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai on Wednesday, said they are working on a joint venture project to commence the extraction and production of eucalyptus oil, an essential oil used for various health purposes.
Dr. Obi Adigwe, shortly after their meeting spoke with journalists in Government House, Kaduna after presenting the Business Case and Feasibility Study to the State Governor in Kaduna.
A team from the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, led by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the NIPRD, Dr. Obi Adigwe, said Eucalyptus oil is also used in the production of many healthcare products and medication, soaps, perfumes and other essential balms.
“The project which has Kaduna State Government and National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development will partner with private investors to produce these wide range of products from the plant that abound in Kaduna State,” he said.
In a research, he said, “a preliminary study by NIPRD identified abundant eucalyptus tree populations in all the forests reserves in Kaduna.
In addition, Eucalyptus trees form 90% of the tree populations in Kaduna’s 5000-hectares forest reserves.
Speaking on its significant, Dr. Obi said, the project has a significant value to the revenue generation and job creation drive of Kaduna State Government as the project seeks to use the abundant youth population in the state in the production of the plant and in the manufacturing.
“It will provide a semi-skilled capacity development for youths and women and ultimately provide job opportunities to people living in rural areas.”.
He disclosed that, “the project is expected to generate 100 skilled and 500 unskilled direct jobs with estimated 2500 indirect employments within each factory location.
“The project proposal demonstrates a viable and profitable business opportunity with an assured sustainability and guarantee for long term production of quality eucalyptus oil for health and economic benefits of the citizens of Kaduna State.
Obi, presented the Business Case and Feasibly Study for the Production of Eucalyptus Oil in Kaduna, and was received by Jimi Lawal, a Senior Adviser Counselor on behalf of Governor Nasir Elrufai of Kaduna State.
